Boulder, Colo. – October 3, 2000 – ActiveParks.org, a nationwide initiative providing the industry’s first Web resource for park and recreation professionals and the communities they serve, gained significant momentum today through a new marketing agreement with e-Greenbiz.com Inc., the first neutral e-commerce Web site serving the business-to-business needs of the green industry, and Active.com, a leading online registration company.

Through the agreement, the two companies will launch a marketing campaign that encourages park and recreation representatives in cities and communities throughout the country to join the ActiveParks.org initiative and contribute their park and recreation information to the ActiveParks.org database. e-Greenbiz.com and Active.com will donate and plant a tree in the city or community of all eligible park and recreation agencies that provide information by the end of 2000. Tree plantings will be organized with public officials and the park communities in the Spring of 2001 as part of civic celebrations.

“Through our extensive reach, deep industry relationships and e-commerce expertise, we can effectively meet the demand for the trees and deliver quality trees to every city and community, no matter what location," said John E. Cochran, president and chief executive officer of e-Greenbiz.com. “Our participation in this initiative provides an ideal market for us to expand our reach among green industry professionals while driving benefits to communities nationwide."

Through its strong relationships with green industry associations, e-Greenbiz.com will locate a single source to supply, co-market and ship the trees to each contributing organization. Sharing the costs of the trees, both e-Greenbiz.com and Active.com hope to bring multiple benefits to the ActiveParks.org initiative and communities nationwide.

The ActiveParks.org initiative, developed by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Active.com, will provide an exhaustive database of 108,000 park and recreation facilities that will allow park and recreation professionals to access a comprehensive range of industry information to enhance park facility management. Based on this database, park directors will be able to utilize online registration for classes, events and leagues. For example, the database will eventually allow the public to get online at www.active.com or www.activeparks.org and search and register for facilities and programs at parks across the country.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response to the ActiveParks.org initiative from the park and recreation community," said Emily Reichman, vice president of Active.com. “We’re hoping this campaign will continue to spread the word and get the nation’s parks on board contributing their information so the public and our communities can soon benefit from the Internet and online registration capabilities."

Park and recreation professionals will be able to talk to the campaign’s organizers and get detailed information about e-Greenbiz.com and the ActiveParks.org project at the 2000 NRPA Congress & Exposition, held next week, October 11-14, 2000 in Phoenix, Ariz.
